GOLF NOTES. (Special to “Standard.”) , FEILDING, Aug. .27. The results of the golf competitions to date are as follow: —Presidents knock-out: First round, Saywell beat Burton. Maguire beat Fawcett, Giesen beat St. Paul, Fair boat Thompson. Second round: Pettigrew beat Little, Harding beat Hassell. Long and Short Handicap.— First round: Pettigrew and Andrews beat Salmon! and Anderson. Second round. Miles and MeGruer beat Dixon and Burton. In the Gonville. Saunders competvtion, Hanger heat Anderson. . Oh Wednesday a team of eight ladies and twelve men from Rangiwahia will plav their first match with Feilding. The Feilding team comprises Miss Crabb, Mrs Billing, Miss Healey, Bliss U. Gould, Mrs Plnllips, Mrs N. Hardinc'. Miss K. Carthew, Mrs Coleman, Messrs Sutton, Foster, McCorkindale, Mason, Coleman, Little, Saywell, Short, E.. Burrell, Hall, Bramwell and Dr. Philips. Play will commence about 1 p.m. COMMISSIONER HAY. A large and representative gathering was present at the Salvation Army citadel on Sunday night to meet Commissioner and Mrs Hay who are making a farewell tour of New Zealand. Also present were Brigadier Wilson (privafro secretary;. Brigadier Harewood (Training College principal), and Lieut.-Colonel Carmichael divisional commander). The commissioner briefly referred to his period of three years spent in New Zealand, and Hie happy experiences he had had of the kindness and hospitality of the people, expressing himself as delighted with the progress that had been made in the Salvation Army. Later on in his address the commissioner referred to the drift that was apparent in the world, the lowering of the spirituaKstandards and the rcsult/ant decay in the normal tone, all of which were things to be deplored in the life of a young country. He knew this, for his travels from end to end of the Dominion had given him unique opportunities for observation. The lack of spiritual knowledge, owing to the absence of tne , r Bible from the schools cf the Dominion, was also to be regretted. He concluded his address with a strong appeal for personal and national righteousness. Mrs Hay also briefly addressed the gathering. GENERAL. Hon.- J. G. Colibe, Minister of Marine and chairman of the directors of the Feilding Farmers’ Freezing Coy., Ltd., has presented a trophy for competition among football teams repiesenting the local butchers, the abattoir workers and the freezing workers. PERSONAL. Mr and Mrs A. E. Sandford have returned from a holiday in the South Island. _ _ ~ f The friends of Mr A. S. Collyer of East Street, will regret to learn that h 9 is again confined to hi% home through illness.
