TIAKITAHUNA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) ' TIAKITAHUNA, Aug. 24. The concert in aid ol the school funds was held in tho hall on Friday evening. There was a record attendance and tne committee’s funds will bo substantially augmented. Following were tho items:— ripening chorus, “Tiatc,” school children, piano uuet, Joan Malloy and Doreen Do Cleenc; song, Mr H. N. McEwen; song, humorous, Mr Farmer; Dutch duo, Gwen Brockliss and Holman Harrison; song, Miss V. (Jorke; recitation, Mrs Harrison; ventriloquist, Mrs Harrison; piano solo, Miss Connie Coockley; poi nance Bainesse school Maori troup; club drill, Rhoda Malfey; humorous sketch, Mr l’ullyn; sailor s hornpipe, Sheila Croad; song, Barbara Tamaiti; song, Mr Farmer; skipping dance, S. Rosval; hula dance, Bainesso children; dialoguo, N. Croad and B. Bond; violin solo, Mr Clinton; song, Mr E. r. Neilsen; cowboy clog, Jock Harnson. Following were tho accompanists: Mesdames H. Voss, Garner and J. Harrison, Misses E. Corke, Croad, McKenzio and Mr Richardson, chairman of tho school committee, then addressed those present. He thanked all who had helped to render such a fine programme and paid a special tribute to Mrs W. De Cleene who had organised the concert. Great credit was duo to her for tho fine concert she had put on. Ho also thanked those present for their patronage, stating that the money would bo spent to the best advantage at the school. Ho then awarded Nellie Fletcher and Raynor Voss prizes for selling tho greatest numbor of tickets. An excellent supper was handed round and the hall cleared for dancing. Owners of private cars carried those living 1 at a distancc to and from tho hall, this good work being carried out by Messrs W. De Cleenc, M. Richardson, E. P. Neilsen and V. Rogers. Competitions were also held. A cake presented by Mrs P. Parker was won by Mrs Matson and a shirt by Mr F. McEwen. Tho local school was closed yesterday for the term vacation. Miss Marjorie Rowland, who is attending Wanganui College, is spending her vacation in Tiakitahuna. During tho past week tho river was very high and the erosion at Hamilton’s Line was very noticeable. About two chains of the road has disappeared, there being just enough room between the river and the fence for a cart to pass with safety, this being over a rough grassy surface.
