FEDERAL TAXATION.
DROP IN STOCKS. THEATRE INTERESTS AFFECTED. Received August 26, 10.0 a.m. SYDNEY, Aug. 26. The announcement by Dr Earle Page, the Federal Treasurer, with regard to the new taxes has caused a drop in some share market stocks, . notably breweries and moving picture interests. A leading picture man declares that theatre profits will be almost wiped out by the added amusement tax and the duty on films. It is announced that work at a large Sydney firm’s workshop has ceased and that the plans for a huge new theatre at Adelaide have been abandoned.
