DOWN THE LINE.

OTAKI, July 26.
A meeting of the Horowhenua Hockey Association was held last night, the president (Mr H. Nicolson) presiding. It was decided to play a North v. South match at Lovin' on Wednesday, and to play a representative gamo with Wanganui on August 7th, and with Wellington on August 14th, provided the dates are suitable to those associations. A representative match with Manawatu was left in the hands of the Levin delegates to arrange. Mr Nicolson reported that ho had pleasure in donating a shield for competition and he was accorded a hearty round of applause. It was decided that tho trophy be known as tho Nicolson Shield on account of the splendid work done by that gentleman 6ince ho started hockey in the district over 25 years ago. Mr Geo. Gordon was yesterday taken to the Palmerston North Hospital for special treatment. Mr E. Winterburn, many years ago a prominent horseman, is at present an inmato of the hospital at Otaki.
