CORRECTING SPELLING.
RECOMMENDATIONS MADE. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, June 21. The fifth annual meeting of the Geographical Board \vas held in Wellington recently, presided over by Ven. Archdeacon H. Williams. Recommendations with iegard to the incorrect spelling of names were adopted for the following, the previous spelling heirg in parentheses: —Koarnaru (Koamoru), Manganui (Monganui), Lavaud Street (Leraud Street), Barrett Lagoon (Barrett's Lagoon), Chinaman Elat (Chinaman’s Elat), Arthur Pass (Arthur’s Pass), Naenae (Nai Nai or Nae Nae), Aorangi stream (Oarenga stream), Tarangarere (Turangaarere). The following recommendations of the commihee were confirmed: That an unnamed peak at the head of tlio Grey glacier be named Seymour Peak, as a compliment to Mr W. Seymour for the services rendered to the expedition in 1925; that a peak to the west of Mt. Hector be named Field Peak, as a compliment to Mr W. H. Field, M.P. for o*taki, who was the first one to take a tramping party over the peak, and that two passes between Mt. Lendenfeld and Tasman be named Marcel Pass (after Mr Marcel King) and Harold Pass (after Mr Harold E. Porter) two well known explorers of that locality. The board resolved to recommend that the name of Mercury Bay be adopted for the Post Office at Whitianga, Mercury Bay. and the retainment of the name Tamaki for the railway station in the Tamaki district, Auckland. The board recommended the adoption of the name of Amokura for a railway siding between Mercer and Whangamarino. Mr A. H. Watt, schoolmaster at Te Kao, North Auckland, was elected an honorary corresponding member of the board.
