A length separated first and second, and second and third, while about three lengths back came another group of three. Olsen was leading at Feilding and kept his position to Newbury on the return trip, but could not hold tho pace and finished fifth. Larsen, -the limit man, occupied a prominent place until Awahuri was reached on the return journey, when the rearguard caught and left him. Spencer was going well with the leaders until a puncture near Awahuri wrote finish to his chances.

The race was controlled by Messrs J. A. Cooksley and W. Weston.
