FIRST MATCH TO H. E. BEST. A liigli wind on Saturday afternoon made scoring difficult at the Palmerston North (inn Club’s meeting and, although there was a good attendance of members, few possibles were scored, the birds being tricky. The first match, for trophies presented by Messrs A. 1,. Cook and C. Cross, was won by H. K. Host with nine on. In the shoot off for second place, P. Meehan beat J. T. Kearins, both of whom had missed two birds. The order of the next best was: B. K. Thomson, P. A. Meehan, R. G. Smith, M. Kearins, and W. A. Thomson.
In a sweepstake which followed, P. Meethan won with the first possible of the day. After going' eight more rounds, tV. A. Thomson beat R. Cl. Smith for second. Only two birds separated the remaining six shooters. In a second sweepstake, two Woodville enthusiasts--!!. G. Smith and J. T. Kearins —scored brilliantly, dividing with a possible each. Tire final event, the first miss out, did not last long, W. A. Thomson winning in the fourth round. Afurthcr shoot will be held next Saturday afternoon on the club’s grounds just off the Fitzherbert Street bridge.
