LORRY FALLS INTO SWAMP.
DRIVER AND SON INJURED. TE AROHA, June G. A cream lorry driven by Mr W. Callesen, of Okauia, ran off the road near Okauia when Mr Callescn was returning to his home. Mr Callesen had a leg broken and his young son, who accompanied him, was also injured. Another lad who was on the s lorry was thrown clear and escaped uninjured. The driver and his son were removed to the Waikato Hospital by the To Aroha ambulance.
After delivering his usual load of cream to the Te Aroha dairy factory Mr Callesen drove about a mile past Mr O’Shea’s farm and when passing over a filling the truck ran over the bank. It fell on its side and rolled down to the swamp below. Being injured and unable to move, Mr Callesen and his son were in a precarious condition, but the lad who was unhurt ran for assistance. A doctor from To Aroha was quickly on the scene. He found Mr Callesen suffering from a fracture of the leg and his son was also seriously hurt. A few years ago Mr Callesen had a similar accident on a level crossing and sustained a fracture of the leg.
