CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY.
ANNUAL MEETING. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, June 7. The ninth annual meeting of the New Zealand Producers’ Co-operative Marketing Association was held last night, Mr E. Harding (Hawke’s Bay) presiding. The chairman stated that the turnover for the year amounted to £1,500,000. Ho believed that the fight of the future would bo between capital and co-operation, and, given loyalty, the latter must win. A striking illustration was the Co-operative Wholesale Society of Britain which, starting with a few members, now numbered 0.000,000. This society really fed half the population of England and Wales. Speaking of the possibilities of pork in England, Mr Harding said that for his own shipment ho received 8d per lb. when the New Zealand factories were offering 4d. The speaker concluded by stating that he thought they were on the eve of an era of stable prices. Messrs. W. V. Harknese (Taranaki), W. Fisher (Wellington) and J. H. Stubbs (Auckland) were re-elected directors. Mr John Fisher (Southland) was also appointed.
