FOXTON
(From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON, June 6. Mr E. A. W. Osborne parsed away at tho residence of his 6on, Mr Harold Osborne, after a brief illness. The late Mr Osborne was born at Guernsey, Channel Islands, in 1852 and was the eldest son of the late Mr E. Pike Osborne. He arrived in New Zealand in 1905 and spent a short period in Foxton and Napier, subsequently removing to Shannon where ho was in business as an accountant and where ho had resided to within a few days of his death. He took a keen interest in local and public affairs and was ono of those instrumental in raising the status of Shannon to a borough. Ho was esteemed for his geneial and generous nature and upright character. His wife predeceased him prior to his coming to New Zealand. He eaves a daughter, Mrs H. E. Straker (Forest Hill, London), two sons, Mr E. A W. Osborne (Wellington) and Mr Harold Osborne (Foxton) thirteen grandchildren and six great grand-ehildren to mourn their loss. Mr A. R. Osborne and Mesdames W. E. Bullard (foxton) and Rist (Hastings) are brothers and sisters of deceased. SHIPPING. Tho Coolebar, to bo re-christened the Himatangi, left Sydney recently with a cargo for AVanganui and Wellington and is expected to arrive at the former port at the end of this week. After undergoing certain alterations at AVellington the steamer will take up her running immediately in tho Foxton trade. MANAAVATU LICENSING BENCH.
The annual meeting of the Manawatu Licensing Bench was held on Wednesday. Those present were Messrs J. L. Stout S.M. (chairman), R. Byrant, J. E. Walker and J. Curran. Leave of absence were granted Messrs J. K. Hornblow and J. H Perrett. A now license was granted to’ Mrs S. A. Wallace, of the Manawatu Hotel Foxton, and also a permanent transfer from J. Swindalc to Mrs Wallace. Renewals of licenses were granted as follow: W Kirkland, Whyte’s Hotel; G. Pritchard, Post Office Hotel; and R. McMullian Family Hotel, Foxton; E. H. Jones, Levin Hotel, W. McLennan, Grand Hotel, Levin; T P. Moynihan, Manawatu Club Hotel, and J. Curran, Albion Hotel, Shannon; Mrs E. M. Mcßrearty, Endymion Hotel, Awahuri; D. King, Junction Hotel, banson; C. C. Price, Criterion Hotel, and J. I). Flynn, Rangitikei Hotel, Bulls. At the conclusion of business Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., complimented the police, health officers and licensees on the splenduL manner in which tho hotels thnough the Manawatu licensing district had been conducted during the last twelvo months.
