PRESIDENT HOOVER’S PRO-
GRAMME

The Department of Justice has announced that 27,575 cases were instituted under the Volstead Act in the United States during the first half-year of 1928, of which 7,099 or more than a quarter of the total, occurred in New York State. At the same time 24 industrial business men and other leaders issued a signed message to the public urging support of President Hoover’s law enforcement programme and approving of the President’s request that Prohibition be given a fair trial. A group including Messrs Ford, Edison, Robert Dollar, and Alfred P. Sloan asked other leaders to join in backing President Hoover, especiallly in regard to the enforcement of Prohibition.
