POSTAL FACILITIES.

REQUEST TO CHIEF POST- • MASTER.

At the meeting of the Chamber of Commerce, held last week, the matter of improved postal facilities for the business men in Rangitikei Street was raised, and the chamber decided to suggest to the Post and Telegaph Department that an additional depot be established for- the receipt of tele grams. That suggestion has been carried further by tii© postal committee’s proposal that an office be established where other classes of postal business might be transacted by the firms in that portion of town. Mr J. H. Stevens, chairman of the postal committee, has to the Chief Postmaster as follows:—“On behalf of the residents of Rangitikei, Cuba, King, Queen and Grey Streets, the Chamber of Commerce have asked their postal committee to enquire as to the possibility of opening a receiving office for telegrams in that vicinity. Perhaps after personal enquiry you may decide to open there in all branches, or at least for money order, savings bank, postal notes, telegrams and sale df stamps. I would be pleased to go with you any day to assist in finding a suitable location.” Mr Dawson, Chief Postmaster, this morning informed a “Standard ’ reporter that the suggestion was receiving consideration. He would inspect the locality in company with Mr Stevens and then refer the matter to the secretary of the department at Wellington. Mr Dawson was unable to give any indication of what decision would eventually .be reached.
