HOCKEY.
MANAWATU EXECUTIVE MEET. Mr It. L. C. Aitchison presided over the fortnightly meeting of the executive of the Manawmtu Hockey Association held last evening, when there were also present:—Messrs Levy, Milne, Sutton, Hansen, Smith, Lundy, Hoare, Amos and Berry (secretary). His Worship, the Mayor, Mr A. J. Graham, accepted the position of vicepresident to the association and forwarded a donation. In accepting the offer, members spoke appreciatively of the interest Mr Graham liad always evinced in healthy sports. It was reported that two challenges for the Winter Shield liad been received by the local association, the present holders. Eeilding and Wanganui are the challengers and the first game may be played about July. Tiro N.Z. Hockey Association forwarded tho itinerary of the Australians’ tour and invited nominations of pluyers lor either of tho two test games by June 20. The guarantee for the games demanded at centres were £75 (tests), £55 (Saturday games), and £35 (mid-week matches). Players chosen lor the tests must pay tlieir own travelling expenses hut the New Zealand Hockey Association will pay two days’ board. It was deckled that clubs desiring to nominate players for the tes’is must hand the nominations at once to the local selectors. As the Manawatu Association is not holding a tournament on J une 3, local clubs were given permission to enter for the Eeifding tournament on that date. It was decided that the team with the bye be responsible for marking the ground each Wednesday. A large number of registrations were accepted. Details of the proposed insurance scheme were submitted as iollow: Premium, 2s Gd per member, death benefit, £200; temporary total disablement benefit, £2 per week (limit 10 weeks); temporary partial disablement, 10s per week (limit 10 weeks). Each club delegate is to approach players on Wednesday June 5, and obtain their view’s, subsequently reporting to the association.
