CEREMONY IN SYDNEY

St. Mary’s Cathedral witnessed a brilliant ceremony to-day, when Papal honours were conferred on a number of citizens for services to the Church during the recent Eucharistic Congress and' in previous years. Five laymen —Sir r Mark Sheldon, Messrs R. D. Meagher, L. Cotter, Michael Meagher, and Matthew O’Neill —were admitted to be Knight Commanders of the Order of St. Gregory. A number of oilier distinctions were conferred. ' . , Father Meaney, organiser of the Congress, who is now visiting Rome, and Father -P. J. Baugh, have been made Domestic Prelates to the Pope with the title of Right Reverend Monsignor. BEATIFICATION CEREMONY. (Australian Press Association.) Received May 26, 9.5 a.m. ROME, May 25. The Vatican has decided during the present year to beatify 250 English people who were martyred for the Roman Catholic faith, mostly during the reign of Elizabeth. It will be the

largest beatification ceremony in the history of the Roman Catholic Church.
