UNUSUAL ACCIDENT.
CAR JUMPS FOOTPATH. There was an unusual accident in the Square yesterday afternoon, when a heavy sedan car, in reverse gear, was being parked on the private stand opposite the weighbridge in the street leading to the war memorial. Apparently, the driver was backing the oar in to the kerb, but evidently accelerated sharply, and the vehicle jumped across the footpath, smashing' its way through the low hedge of the Square gardens in its backwards career.
The hedge was levelled where the car plunged through, and the vehicle entered the gardens for a distance of about fifteen or twenty feet, stopping right over the inner footpath. Fortunately, there were no pedestrians in the immediate vicinity at the time. The car was none the worse for encountering the obstacle.
