(Mr Gordon) £2 2s 6d forthwith, in default three days imprisonment. FEILDING SITTING. (Special to “Standard.”) . FEILDING, May 28. Mr R. M. Watson* S.M., presided over the fortnightly sitting of the Feilding Magistrate’s Court to-day. AFTER HOURS TRADING. W. H. Hart, licensee of the Empire Hotel, Feilding, pleaded guilty to a charge of selling liquor after hours. Sergeant Cahill explained that a similar charge was preferred against the wife of defendant and he suggested that these cases be taken in conjunction with those laid against four persons found on the premises after hours. The magistrate assented to the suggestion. Arising out of the above case, charges of having been on. licensed premises after hours were laid against William Hoppy, Leonard F. Kreaghen. Albert John Kreaghen and Frederick Whittaker, all of whom pleaded guilty. In outlining the facts of the case, Sergeant Cahill said , that Constables Johnston and Ruddell visited the hotel at about twenty minutes past six on a recent evening and found the men on the premises. There were glasses in the bar that showed signs of having been just used. In an explanation to the Bench, Mr Hart stated that he had left the hotel some time before the arrival of the police and the men were then in the dining room having dinner. After this they had asked for drinks and Mrs Hart had supplied them in the Commercial room.

In reply to a question from the Bench, Mr Hart said that his wife had a key to the bar and he had another. Sergeant Cahill said that there was no doubt about the position of Mrs Hart in the matter; she had authority to sell liquor. A fine of £2 and costs was imposed on each of the four defendants found on the premises. : and on Mrs Hart tlie magistrate inflicted the maximum penalty under the section of £lO and costs, and £5 with costs on Mr Hart. SPEEDING MOTORISTS. Through Mr Cullinane', F. C. Elliott pleaded guilty to a charge of driving a motor vehicle at a greater speed than 16 miles per hour when approaching the intersection of Stafford Street and Kimbolton Road, Feilding, such intersection being of a nature that when the driver is 90 feet away he has not a clear view of the intersection. A fine of £2 with 12s‘costs was imposed. To a like charge C. E. Short pleaded guilty and was fined a similar sum. LICE-INFECTED SHEEP. Upon the information of the Government stock inspector (Mr E. A. Palmer) the following were charged with having offered lice-infected sheep for sale in the Feilding saleyards:— Henry M. Parker (Colyton) was fined £1 and 10s costs; D. W. Read (Sandon Road; £2 10s, costs 12s; G. L. Snelling (Palmerston North) £1 10s, costs 10s; Claud H. Spiers (Shannon) £l, costs 10s; C. G. Vennell (Rdwa; £l, costs 12s; Albert Anderson (Mangaweka) £l, costs 10s; Ernest Kilgour (Awahuri) £l, costs 12s. FAILURE TO ATTEND CAMP. For failing to attend the camp of the Wellington-West Coast Regiment at Waverley last February, Albert Hayden, of Feilding, was fined £5 with 12s costs. Sergeant-Major Ryan explained that this was the second occasion on which Hayden had failed to attend camp. CIVIL LIST.
