DOWN THE LINE.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) OTAKI, May 27. The weather to-day was decidedly cold, due to a fall of snow on the Tararuus. Table Top has a good coating. The Otaki Hockey Association’s dance at Te Horo on Friday night was a great success, arid a fair sum was raised. Mrs Kear leaves for England on June 8. Constable Satherley has been confined to his bed for the past two days and will probably undergo an operation for cflpendicitis v. Mr Frank Wilton, junr., underwent a successful operation for appendicitis *on Thursday. Nurse Hitchman leaves shortly for Carterton to take up Plunket nursing. Miss Maxwell is at present relieving at the Otaki State School in place of Miss Hoggins, who is laid up with a broken leg. The death occurred on Sunday of Mr William Howell, a well-known resident of Paraparaumu, aged 88 years. Deceased leaves a grown-up family bo mourn their loss. The junior football match on Saturday at Manakau was a fine game, won by the home team —17—8. There was some, splendid play, both sides showing great dash. The game was so fast that the referee was unable to keep up with it. Mr H. Nicoison, the father of hockey in this district, has decided to present a shield for men’s hockey. Mr Niaolson, two years ago, presented a similar trophy to the Ladies’ Association. . Rev. H. Spencer is in Wellington attending the Synjod. ’
