R.S.A. CLUB.

BILLIARD ACTIVITIES. CHAMPIONSHIPS DECIDED. Possessing as it does a large number of expert cueists among its members, it is not surprising to find the activities of the billiards committee of the It.S.A. attended with success. Each year championship and handicap competitions are conducted in both billiards and snooker for trophies which have been donated by supporters of the association, and the series of tourneys which have now been concluded attracted record entries, while the standard of play was exceptionally high. . , . ._ r , TT In the billiards championship, Mr \V . Larkins, who had demonstrated his superiority on the green cloth in 1927 and 1928, again triumphed in the final to take possession of the Licensed Victuallers’ Shield for the third successive occasion. Mr K. W. Eglinton won through to the final, but found the task of accounting for the champion to much for him. ' The snooker championship witnessed the defeat of the former holder, Mr S. H. Hume, the winner and runner-up in this section being Messrs A. W. Chapman and J. Gardiner respectively. By that success Mr Chapman takes possession of the Goldingham and Beckett Cup for the ensuing twelve months.

While the championships were contested “at will,’’ each Wednesday evening found a tourney conducted in both branches alternately, but on a handicap basis with the games of 10 minute duration. In the billiards section Mr W. H. Macmillan proved to be the winner with 14 points gained over the full series, Messrs N. Hughes and S. H. Hume tieing for second place with 11 points. Mr Macmillan also gained the day in tho points competition governing the two handicap sections, the nine points forthcoming from the snooker tourneys giving him an aggregate of 23 which enabled him to win by the narrowest of margins from Mr N. Hughes who registered 224 points. By his double success Mr Macmillan takes possession of the Tucker and Hannay cups for the ensuing 12 months. That valued friend and supporter of the club, Mr P. A. McHardy, prior to his removal to Hawke’s Bay donated two handsome cups to the club and these are annually competed for on a handicap basis in both billiards and snooker. These competitions are at present in progress and for which there are no lees than 36 aspirants.
