SANATORIA CONTROL.

ATTITUDE OF BOARD. GROUP SCHEME AFFIRMED. A decision to affirm the group system of control of tuberculosis sanatoria, as decided upon at the recent Hospital Boards’ Conference, was made by the Palmerston North Hospital Board at its monthly meeting yesterday, when it also decided to make representations to have Palmerston North selected as the conference centre for the Wellington group. The matter arose as the result of a circular forwarded containing the remits adopted by the conference. Mr J. K. Hornblow nioved that the board approve of the group system of control by hospitals. .■ r The acting-chairman (Mr J. A. Nash, M.P.) pointed out that, while the board might affirm the principle, it should insist that the sanatoria were handed. over in proper and up-to-date condition. *

It was suggested that application be made to have Palmerston North made the group’ centre, and that invitations be extended for holding the conferences in this town, a resolution being moved on those lines.

Mr Nash emphasised that the board should clearly indicate its attitude concerning the transfer of control. Mr Hornblow agreed that, after the board affirmed the group principle, it should take steps to see that the institutions . were handed over properly equipped.

Mr Nash: I quite agree, but I always believe in pushing a little ahead. Both the proposals brought forward were carried.
