COAL DISPUTE.
SETTLEMENT HOPES. SYDNEY, April 10. The discussions at to-day’s meeting between representatives of the coal owners and the Miners’ Fedenation are stated to have been most amicable. There is the hope existent that by tomorrow a satisfactory arrangement will be reached. In view of the discussions now proceeding the case against John Brown, the coal magnate, who allegedly incited a lock-out in the mining industry, has- been withdrawn by the Crown. DISTRESS IN HOMELAND. LORD MAYOR’S RELIEF FUND. (British Official Wireless.) Received April 10, 9.5 a.m. RUGBY, April 9. The Lord Mayor of London’s fund for the relief of the distressed mining areas, which will be closed on April 30, now amounts to £794,000. A Government contribution of a like amount will be added to this total for distribution to deserving cases.
