WORLD’S BEST.
~ AUSTRALIAN TENNIS. AVERAGE OF PLAYERS. “Australia is the world’s best tenn« country on the average of the first 50 players,” said Dr. C. Gregory, captain of the English team, who arrived in London recently. He spoke of Australia’s high average excellence, but added: “Australia lacks topnotchers, though Crawford is excellent onoccasion. England at present has more young players coming on. Australians would be hard to beat it a team visited England now, because the players are older and more experienced.” He advocated an exchange of English and Australian tours every two or three years, and emphasised that such visits must not be classed with the cricket Tests, which completely engrossed public attention in Australia.
