PHILATELIC SOCIETY.

ANNUAL REPORT. The report to be presented to the annual meeting of the Philatelic Society to be held on April 17 states tut follows:—“The membership has increased and at the close of the year was 65. The committee wish to remind members that the credit of a year’s subscription for each member introduced is still in force, and an effort is being made this year to 11,crease the strength to 100 members. During the year 17 exchange books have been made up and sent out on circuit, 13 of which havo since been broken up and sales accounts forwarded to owners, together with unsold stamps, whilst four books are still on circuit. The high standard of the previous year has been more than maintained, and it is gratifying to notice that members now realise the importance of sending in only material which is actualy suitable for mounting in collections. Sales have unfortunately shown a decline as comparer with tho previous year, but as almost all societies in New Zealand have had the same experience it is pleasing to know that he financial side of our affairs compares favourably with other years. Thirtv-fivo circuits were covered during the year, the total value of the stamps circulated being £722 2s 11 id, and sales £lO9 2s 4fd, showing that purchases equal 15 per cent, of value circulated. As the result of the efforts of the committee a ‘special’ exchange book is on circuit. This was made possible by the generosity of members who felt that, in the interests of members generally, it was necessary to establish a reserve fund, and presented stamps to the society tor that purpose. The sales from this book have up to the moment been fair and it is hoped that all the stamps will be sold during the current year. This, of course, can only be accomplished by every member making it his or her business to purchase some stamps whether immediately required or not. The exchange superintendent advises that he can do with material for circuit immediately, and would like members to send some in.”
