SHANNON NOTES.
(From' Our Own Correspondent). SHANNON, April 10. The lato Mr J. Douglas, who passed awav at the Palmerston North Hospital on Saturday after a long illness, hnd been a resident of Shannon and .district for many years. Deceased, who was 70 years of age, was a carpenter and was employed on the Managhao hydro-electric works. His last work,- which was given gratis, was the erection of tho local Fire Brigade station. At a ■ meeting of the brigade a motion of sympathy was carried in silence as a mark .of respect to the deceased gentleman.. . His Worship the Mayor (W. E. Butt) will again contest the mayoralty and amongst the nominations for councillors is one from a member of the fair sex. Mr H*.C. .Jones, postmaster, is at present on furlough; * ’• The opening of. the Golf Club’will’take place next Saturday. At a meeting of the Buckley Drainage Board it. was resolved to raise a further £IOO to complete tho Koputaroa banking scheme. ■ »
