PAPATAWA SPORTS

ELEVENTH MEETING.

The eleventh annual meeting of the Papatawa Sports Club took place yesterday. - The weather was very cloudy with a bitterly cold wind, and an occasional shower of rain during the afternoon made matters rather unpleasant. The attendance, considering the weather, was very satisfactory and must be nearly a record for the club. There was a fair decrease of entries compared with last year, but, nevertheless, there' were some very exciting races. » The grounds are admirably suited for the purpose and the committee must have worked exceedingly hard to have had everything in sucli good order. The jumps were models of what jumps should be and the track was in better order than it has ever been before. The exciting finishes were a credit to the handicappers. With such a large body of enthusiastic officials and other workers it would be invidious to single out any person for special mention. The meeting was splendidly conducted and everything went off like clockwork. The proceedings were considerably enlivened ny items from the Woodville Boys’ Band under the capable conductorship of the bandmaster, Mr Hodgkins. Mr E. J. Harding, a most efficient secretary, was kept very busy all the day and was ably assisted by all the officials. After the Open Hunters’ Competition, Mr J. S. Nelson, president of tile club, in a neat little speech, presented to Mr Bruce McKay, on behalf of Mr A. Parsons, the cup donated by Mr J- Cunninghame.
