MANAWATU CLUB’S TOURNEY. SECOND QUALIFYING ROUNDS. Play in the second round of the Manawatu Golf Club’s Easter tourney on Saturday afternoon saw better cards returned than the first round in the morning, when the golf was steady but not outstanding, the course being found a little difficult after the rain. The best card of the afternoon and day was'returned by a local club member, H. H. Hutchison. Par figures were carded at the first eight holes, but one over bogey was taken at the 9th, and prevented him from getting fours over the first half. After carding par at the 10th hole, one over par was taken at each of the next three holes. Four holes in succession then were taken in par fours, with one over bogey at the 18th. J. P. Hornibrook, who carded 81 in the morning, improved his score by one stroke in tho afternoon. Going out in the morning he took 37, one extra being taken in the afternoon. His homeward journey in tho morning was done in 44, but in the .afternoon he took two less. One “birdie” was carded at the 6th hole in the morning, while two were scored in the afternoon—at the Ist and 17th holes. L. Seifert carded 38 and 42 in the afternoon. He scored two “birdies” and three par holes outward. One over bogey was taken at the 10th and 12th, with bogey figures at the 11th, jffiree of the remaining holes were done in bogey and three in par. T. H. Horton played par golf in the afternoon on the outward journey, carding two “birdies” and five par holes, making his score 36. He lost his putting touch coming home and required seven more strokes to complete the round. OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP.

The Nelson provincial golf tourney Wis commenced on the Pahunanui Links in sunny weather, but rather strong wind, which died down to a calm before midday. There were about 70 entries, including representatives from some dozen outside clubs. The qualifying rounds for the championship and a handicap stroke competition were played. In the qualifying round of the Auckland provincial golf championship, Sloan Morpeth, New Zealand open champion, headed the list with 162. Among others who qualified were E. L. Bartleet, New Zealand tennis champion, with 167, and H, B. Lusk, with 171. PLAY AT AVELLINGTON. , Per Press Association. AVELLINGTON, March 31. H. A. Black headed the qualifying list in the AA’ellington provincial goff championship with an aggregate of 146 for the two rounds. A. D. S. Duncan was second with 151.
