LORRY OVER BANK.

DRIVER KILLED. NELSON, March 28. Mr Albert Manners, of Murchison, A partner in the grocery business of McNce and Co., was killed fate yc-terduy afternoon when the lorry he was driving went over the bank on the Ma’tikitaki Road. The deceased ’had been out. on a country round with groceries, and was returning to Murchison when the accident happened. It is understood that the steering-gear on tho lorty Lroke. Mr and Mrs Bell, of Trafalgar Street North, Miss Griffiths, and Alex lngiis, all of Nelson, were riding in tue lorry, and they received minor injuries The two ladies werere moved to a nearby home. The deceased was pinned underneath the lorry for an hour before help could be obtained to move the vehicle. The late Mr Manners was a married man with five children, and had recently gone into partnership with Mr Swanney in the firm of Messrs MeNee and Co. He was a vice-president of the Young Men’s Institute, and a mem ber of the school committee, and hr death will be keenly felt by a wii circle of friends. He was well-know in the ■ Takaka district, where lie w in business for a number of years. An inquest was held at Murchison i dav. before Mr Hugh Fraser, Coron who returned a verdict that death v due to injuries received through overturning of a motor-truck driven' the deceased, there being no evide to show wliat caused the truck to ler the road.
