THE SOUTHERN CROSS.

FLIGHT TO ENGLAND! SATURDAY OR SUNDAY PROBABLY -SYDNEY, March 27_;_ The flight of the Southern Cross to England will probably begin on Saturday or Sunday. Captain Kingsford Smith has recoverd from his indisposition. 1 • PERSIAN PROHIBITIONS. A flight such as that to be undertaken by Squadron-Leader KingsfordSmith and Flight-Lieutenant Ulm, who will shortly leave for England in the Southern Cross, is an affair with international aspects, and the fliers have had to oommunicate with all the countries over which they propose to fly. For instance, the other day FlightLieutenant Ulm received a telephone message from the Department of Civil Aviation in Melbourne, to the effect that an inquiry had come from the Persian Government concerning the flight. The Persian authorities wanted to know whether the Southern Cross would be carrying wireless and photographic equipment, because their regulations prohibit the carrying of photographic gear over certain areas. The fliers have agreed not to carry any camera equipment, and they have supplied the Persian Government with their wireless call number, as well as full information regarding their movements over Persian territory. _ There are sections of Persia over which they are not allowed to fly at all, iso they have had to convey full particulars of their route.
