PURCHASE OF RADIUM.

INCREASED SUBSIDY. DUNEDIN, March 27. Among the deputations which waited on the Prime Minister (Sir Joseph Ward) to-day was one from the Otago University Council and the Otago Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. The request made by the deputation was that the Government subsidy on gifts of money for the purchase of radium should be increased to £1 for £1 as was formerly the case instead of 10s in the pound as in the case at present. The Prime Minister promised to give immediate authority for increasing the subsidy to £1 for £1 for twelve months. Other matters mentioned by the same deputation were the question of a grant for the proposed obstetric hospital in Dunedin and the question of of an increased Government contribution to the upkeep of the Dunedin Hospital on account of its association with the medical school. The Prime Minister promised to give attention to these matters on his return to Wellington.
