PROTEST RENEWED.

TRAINING MIDWIVES. REQUEST FOR APPROVAL. Advice was received by the Palmerston North Hospital Board yesterday, from the Nurses’ and Midwives’ Registration Board that the application for the approval of the Palmerston North District Maternity Home as a training school for midwives was considered at a meeting of the Registration Board, which considered that there had not been sufficient time definitely to ascertain whether the institution would be able to provide sufficient material and generally supply the standard of training required for midwives. It was decided that the approval granted for maternity nurses to be trained should stand, but that the matter of granting approval for the training of midwives should be reviewed in twelve months’ time.

It was reported that the mAtcr was dealt with at the recent conference, and that Mr Wallace had stated that the local institution was eminently suitable for the purpose for which sanction was sought. The board decided to make renewed representations, and to enlist the support of the member for the district, though the Hospital Board’s Association executive had the matter in hand.
