SHOPKEEPER FINED.

SELLING OF POTATOES. OFFENCE ON SUNDAY. A penalty of £l, with 10s costs, was inflicted on Annie Allison, of 25 Cuba Street; when she was charged this morning before Messrs W. F. Durward and D. J. Lovelock, Justices of the Peace, with keeping^her shop open on Sunday, February 17, for the purpose of selling potatoes. 7 Senior-Sergeant Vii icehouse stated that, at 11 a.m. on Sunday, February 17, while Constable Goodwin was cycling past the shop, he saw a girl leaving with a bag, \Vhich contained potatoes. The shop was a dairy, and, as such, was entitled to be open for the purpose of selling cream on Sunday. The Bench: There is no suggestion chat a practice has been made of this? Senior-Sergeant Whitehouse : Not in this particular instance, but probably dairies make a practice of it. Perhaps they are not so much to blame as the people who send for goods.
