FARMERS’ UNIONS.

FEDERATION OF INTERESTS. AGREEMENT REACHED. According to a statement made at the meeting of Wellington provincial branch of the Now Zealand Farmers Union this morning, federation between that body and the New Zealand Dairy Farmers’ Union has been agreed upon, to be effective from April 1. Mr O. P. Lynch the branch delegate to the Dominion executive, said that the Dairy Farmers’ Union had agreed to amalgamate with the Farmers’ Unioh, the federation to /take place from April 1. The Dairy Farmers’ Union was not seeking representation on the union executive. The terms of tlie federation had been decided as follow : (1) The New Zealand Dairy Farmers’ Union to pay to the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, annually 7s 6d in the £1 o:i all levies collected from members of tho New Zealand Dairy Farmers’ Union.

(2) The federation of the two organisations to date from April 1, 1929. (3) The organiser of tlie New Zealand Farmers' Union to organise for both unions. If a farmer decided to join the New Zealand Dairy Farmers’ Union he would be enrolled as such; if, however, he wished to join the New Zealand Farmers’ Union he would be enrolled as a member of that body. The organiser would carry two enrolment bc.oks, one for each union. (4) The New Zealand Dairy Farmers’ Union would have one representative on the Dominion executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union and one oil the advisory board, a total of two on the whole of the executive.

(5) Representation at the annual conference would be on the same basis as that for provincial executives of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, viz: one delegate for every 500 members or part thereof. It was agreed to have the conditions typed and signed by both organisations as early as possible. Mr P. Gloyn was of the opinion that there should be amalgamation or nothing, but, no further action was taken.
