RIVAL ROUTES
INSPECTION BY MINISTER. Per Press Association. GISBORNE, Feb. 28. Hon. IV. B. Taverner (Minister of Railways) arrived in Gisborne to-night from Opotilci and was accorded a civic reception at a very largely-attended and representative meeting. Later, two deputations waited on the Minister, urging the immediate continuation of the East Coast railway from Wairoa to Gisborne. The Minister, in reply, said that he intended to examine the two rival routes and the Government’s decision would be announced in due course. The Minister leaves to-morrow morning to make a personal inspection of tlie inland route and will examine the coastal ro'ate on Saturday, proceeding that evening to Napier.
