FIFTH TEST.
AUSTRALIAN TEAM. SELECTORS’ WORK COMMENTED OxN. (Australian Press Association.) Received March 1, 9.5 a.m. LONDON, Feb. 27. Mr Clem Hill writes in the Daily Telegraph to the effect that “by including Wall and Fairfax, the Australian selectors have done wliat is absolutely necessary. They have at last recognised that it is essential to have bowlers able to take advantage of a new ball. In the last three # Tests, with Hendry and Nothling opening the bowling at Sydney, and Hendry and A’Beckett at Melbourne arid Adelaide. Australia was half defeated from the start. Wall is unquestionably Australia’s best fast Lowler at the present moment.” Mr Hill declares that no matter what Hornibrook doss in the coming Test he must go to England in 1930, for the simple reason that no Australian team should go to England without a left-hander. He oilers his congratulations to the selectors on the fact that youth has at last been recognised with sting in the opening bowlers. Mr P. F. Warner states that the final Test players obviously will be selected with a view to the future. If able to find a first>clas,s bowler the Australians will bo a formidable combination in 1930. Mr Warner is of opinion that Ryder will have an excellent chance of the captaincy of the 1930 team.
