VETERAN BOWLERS MEET.
AGES TOTAL 598 YEARS. TE AWAMUTU, March 1. A veterans’ bowling match between representatives of To Awamutu and Cambridge was played recently on the Te Awamutu Club’s greens. The total number of years represented by the two teams, of four players each, was 598. The Cambridge team was the senior, the four players’ ages totalling 312 years, while the Te Awamutu players’ ages totalled 286 years. The individual ages were as follows: —Cambridge: G. E. Clark, 88 years; T. Simpson, 69; S. Cowling, 78; W. McFarlane, 77. Te Awamutu: E. Rushbrooke, 73; W. Savill, 73; C. Bowden, 70; S. H. Dunkley, 70. The Cambridge team won by 29 points to 17, but the result of the match was not of importance compared with the pleasure the veterans obtained from their afternoon’s association. The players who took part in tho match are well-known in the Auckland Province. Although now in the autumn of their years, there are ’many present-day bowlers who have the highest respect for their play,
