TOBACCO-GROWING.
CULTIVATION BY MAORIS. ROTORUA, March 1. Mr Low, Government expert in connection with the cultivation of tobacco, paid a visit of inspection to land which the Maoris have planted with tobacco. Most of the crops have done well both at Mourea and Koutu. The natives have taken to this new industry very kindly, and it is hoped that some financial assistance will be given to erect drying sheds. Some idea of the success attained may be formed by Mr Low’s - estimate of the initial crop for this season, it being about £IOOO.
