CLOTHING TRADE.
Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Feb. 28. The New Zealand wholesale clothing trade wants a safeguarding tariff. A deputation waited on the Alanufacturers’ Conference to-day placing the position before it. Statements were made that, owing to the unemployment position at Home, the worst sweating conditions exist in industry there, and the Dominion was being flooded with sweated goods. The deputation said that there was no intention of getting up a deputation to Sir Joseph Ward, but they wished to co-operate with the deputation proposed by the federation of employers which they were arranging for early in March. The conference decided to instruct the federation officers to assist the clothing manufacturers in presenting their case to the Premier.
