WATER HEATERS.
POWER BOARD PROPOSALS. POSITION OF FARMERS. The proposal of tho ManawatnOroua Power Board to increase the price of power for water heaters was discussed at the meeting of the Dairy Farmers’ Union yesterday afternoon, when it was decided to ask the board to give every consideration to dairy farmers, the chairman (Mr N. Campbell) stating that, if tli e proposals were adopted, they would have a prejudicial effect on dairy farmers, who must have boiling water for sterilising purposes. Mr P. J. Small, who is also a member of the Power Board, produced a chart showing the fluctuations in tho peak load.. There was a big strain on the load between 11 a.m. and noon, whereas there was power to spare in the afternoon. He stated that the board bought on its peak load —the big load during 11 a.m. and noon —and yet that load was only required for an hour. The result was that the board was paying about £2OOO per year more than it need do. Mr Boyce stated that the elements in the water heators in cowsheds were too small to permit the current being cut off for any length of time, and Mr Mason suggested that the Power Board should increase the size of the element, in addition to installing clock switches.
