WOMEN’S WORLD.

Miss Joy McHardy has returned from the South and is tho guest of Mrs R. Dale. Mrs J. L. Stout and Mrs L. Taylor have returned from a motor trip to Wanganui. Professor and Mrs Peren have returned from Paraparaumu. Mrs Lawry Sherriff, of Taihape, is the guest of Mrs It. S. Abraham. Miss Blackmore left for Sydney on Monday night, en route to England and the Continent. At the Nelson College Board of Governors’ meeting on Wednesday, Miss C. McHaffie, M.Sc., of Palmerston North High School, was appointed assistant mistress, and Miss Muriel Searle, of Christchurch, physical culture mistress of the Girls’ College. The death occurred in Union Street, Foxton, at the residence of her daughter, on Wednesday, of Mrs E. F. Bushett, aged 65 years. Deceased was well known in Foxton (says the “Standard’s” correspondent) but for some years prior to her death had been residing in Wellington. She was with her daughter in Foxton, however, when , she became seriously ill and passed away. Deceased leaves a family of four sons and three daughters. Tho daughters are Mesdames Hoffmann and E. Leach (of Foxton) and D. Loveday (Palmerston North). The sons are Messrs M. Andresen (Nelson), W. and It. Bushett (Foxton) and It. Bushett (Petone). The funeral took place yesterday afternoon, Rev. W. H. Nicholas conducting a short service at the residence and the final rites at the graveside.

JOTTINGS. In checked velveteen was seen lately a swoetly simple afternoon frock. ST. ANDREW’S LADIES’ GUILD. The St. Andrew’s Ladies’ Guild held their first meeting for this year yesterday afternoon when Mrs Murray presided over a fair attendance. A letter was road from Mrs Wallace resigning her position from the committee owing to ill health. Mrs Swinbourn was elected’ in her place till the end of the year. A letter was also read from the secretary of the Presbyterian orphanages thanking the members of the guild for their Christmas gift of handkerchiefs to the children. During the afternoon, Mrs Niven and Mrs Fell contributed songs and Master Sunbourn two items on the steel guitar.

CROQUET. MANAWATU TOURNAMENT. Play was continued yesterday afternoon in various sections of the tournament organised by the Manawatu Croquet Association. Results of the games are as follow : HANDICAP DOUBLES.
