FIRM PROSECUTED.
RIGHT TO DO PLUMBING
NOVEL POINT INVOLVED,
NEW PLYMOUTH, Dec. 21. The question whether a company can be a plumber was raised in the Magistrate’s Court to-day when Boon Brothers, builders, were charged with engaging ■in sanitary plumbing without being registered plumbers and with displaying a sign which induced the belief that they were registered plumbers. For the defence counsel raised technical objections to the prosecution on the ground that there was no such firm as Boon Brothers, as that firm had been formed into a limited liability company in 1915, and that therefore the serving of the summons on Alfred Boon was ineffective. Counsel further submitted that the company was not capable of becoming a registered plumber, because of the conditions imposed in regard to an examination. Counsel pointed out that the work done by Boon Brothers was all under the supervision of a registered plumber. The magistrate said the point was an important one and he reserved his decision.
