BAINESSE.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

BAINESSE, Dec. 18. One of the most successful concerts evor presented by the local school children took place on Monday evening. The building was filled to the doors and tho items were well deserving of tho applause accorded them. The first part of the programme was taken chiefly by the juniors, who played their pa.rt well; then followed tho seniors in various dialogues, recitations, choruses and songs and showed good talent amongst them. Great praise is due to Mrs Gray (head teacher) and Miss McKenzie for the way everything was carried to a successful conclusion, Rhoda Grammer, as usual, was most winsome and captivating on tlio stage with Don Tennent who was pleasing and capable. Ivan Dumford and Jack Tamiti were favourites, also Barbara Tamiti with her song, “Waiata Maori,” sung by the little one attired in native costume. The school during the afternoon was decorated with crimson rambler roses and peas by the children. _ - At the conclusion of tire concert, Mrs Gray thanked everyone for their support, and hoped the items were enjoyed as she was sure the school was capable of doing good work and better results still could be accomplished. To produce this the teachers and parents must necessarily pull together, otherwise it could not be done, and, generally, the children would then bo the ones to suffer. In conclusion, she was hoping next year to do still better work in tho school and asked everyone to a<-ist her in that direction. Mrs Gray was loudly applauded for her interest in the school, having been here only one year. Supper was then served. The catering was most ably carried out by Mesdames Grammer and Millard, of the school committee, who are never lacking in their energies where duty and the children are concerned and a sumptuous supper and cold drinks were handed round in plenty. Mesdames Robertson (2) and Miss M. Tennent gave assistance, also the gentlomen. Messrs Ryan *nd F. Legg served ice creams. A dance followed, the music as usual being supplied by Miss McKenzie with extras by Mr G. Millard. Mr T. Grammer acted as M.C.

The school garden is the centro of attraction of many passers by, and praise is general. Mrs Gray, of late, with the boys and girls, has made tho garden quite a beauty spot, while Mr H. Robertson has also been shaping things up around the school and ha-s made the appearanco quite attractive.
