GENERAL ELECTION.

CLOSING OF NOMINATIONS. EVERY SEAT CONTESTED. ' Nominations for tlie general election closed yesterday with the result that every seat will be contested. For the 16 European seats there are 212 candidates and for the four Maori seats there are 19 aspirants. A surprise nomination is that of Mrs Margaret Young (Independent Labour) for Wellington Central.

For the European seats there are 68 Government candidates, 57 in the interests of the Labour Party, 55 for the United Party, 12 Independents, seven Independent Reformers, five Country Party representatives, three LiberalLabour, two Independent Labour, one Independent Liberal-Labour, one Independent United, and one Christian Socialist. Government candidates who have been officially endorsed are denoted by G and Independent Government supporters bv LG. Labour candidates are denoted by L, Liberal by Lib. and Liberal-Labour by Lib-Lab. U signifies the United Party (including the former Nationalists), and C the Country Party. Independent candidates are denoted by I and Christian Socialist by ChrisSoc.
