RACING NEWS.

FROM STABLE AND COURSE. (By “Binocular.”) Tho Birchwaod Hunt meeting wilt bring October activities to a close. November ia invariably a brisk month and the ball will bo set rolling by the Dargaville Club, tho New Zealand Cup fixture following two days later at Riccarton. At tho Westmerc stud Anthem, an imported inaro by Royal Canopy, has foaled a brown filly foal to Limond. Anthem is to be mated with Grand season The Marblo Arch gelding Marble King is to be treated to a spell. He quickly freshens up in tho paddock and ho may bo found out with the colours up before next month is out.

Kilmoyler, by Kilbroney—Maltegarde, has been sent south to Wingatui to bo trained by F. Shaw. He will be tried first on the flat, while later he may be put to the jumping game. Of late he lias proved disappointing. Leitrim, who has oome into prominence as the result of his two wins in the Waikato, is engaged in tho Takapuna Plate and the Wynyard Plate to be decided at the Takapuna spring meeting at tho end of next month.

Glen Star was expected by liis connections to run prominently at Te Rapa, but it is stated that the heavy course was all against him. He is to be taken to the Dargaville meeting and, with firm gping, his performance should be of an improved order.

After a lengthy spell in tho paddock, the Archiestown mare Archcno lias been brought back into the active ranks and will be prepared for racing later in the senson, states a northern writer. She will be hacked around the noads for a few weeks before being put into solid work. It was reported from Wellington ihat Sunnj - Hours, tho Leighton-Los Vegas fitly who has been' receiving her education at the hands of R. E. Hatch at Awnpuni, had been spld to (he Wingatui trainer, D. I’. Wilson. Such was not, however, correct, the youngster disposed of by Mr W. G. Stead having been Sunward, the Lord Qucx —Sundust gelding, who had also been receiving bis 1 education at Hatch’s hands. A fine upstanding sort, lie should nialio gciod, although he may require time. When schooled at Ellerslie, one morning Inst week Harbour View, with E. Stanway in the saddle, is reported to have given a satisfactory showing. This gelding will contest the Kaihu Hurdles on the opening day of tile Dargaville meeting.

In his last start, at Ellerslie Mountain Guide failed to run up to expectations; still he hns been training on satisfactorily in tho meantime and may do better. He is engaged in hack races to be run at the Dargaville meeting.

The Grey Monk gelding Zane Grey, who has been stcaidly iinproviftg for some time past, is tio be given a run in a minor event on the second day of the Dargaville meeting, states the Auckland Star. Zane Grey, who has been sprinting freely on the trnck, may require time before being seen at his best. *

Master O’Rorke, bred by Mrs S. Leonard; of Waihou, is now an inmate of R. Hall’s stable at Otahuhu states a northern scribe. As ho has had an extended spell, and is quite Hound, he should race well this season. Like many of the Day Comets, he is a fine jumper, and may do well in this department. His dam, Autumn Rose, by Soult —Alba Rose, has been sent to the Gainsborough horse Gainscourt at -Hastings. There is not much of Te Ngeru, blit she is a racy looking thing, and what she lacks in inches is made up for in courage writes “Early Bird.” In both her outings at Te /Rapa it was gamoncss that enabled her to pay dividends, and when not overburdened with weight she will take a lot of beating. She is by Catmint from an unnamed daughter of Soult, and is trained by A. Cook at Te Awamutu, whose horses had a great run at the fixture.' F. Gilchrist is keeping Avoncourt moving along on tho track, and the Lucullus filly lias freshened up a good deal of late writes “Whalebone.” She is to make her next appearance in the Takapuna Plato, which comes up for decision on the first day of the Takapuna spring meeting, to be held on November 30 and December 1. Avoncourt is a very quick beginner and should bo well suited on the suburban course.

Judge’s Box and Winsome Boy bnvo Both been doing plenty of the right class of work to fit them for their races at the Dargaville meeting. The former is down at tile bottom of the weights in the Hobson Handicap, and with tho going favourable she should be a possibility in that event.

Atapo, who broke his back when ho fell over Red Heather in the Hurdle Race at Gore was originally quartered in this island. He was an unlucky horse right through his southern career. He was by Quarantine from Adela, and owned by Mr Bert Mills, of Otautau. Tidal was not wanted irf the Hamilton Handicap by backers, for ho was at extreme odds comments a northern writer. The rider’s saddle slipped half a mile from home, and the horse was pulled up just before reaching the post. Pale Star went a good race in this event .finishing on aguin after meeting with some tnouble in the middle stuges, so that if placed right lie should be able to capture a fair handicap later on.

Fernden will be having his second start as a three-year-old in the Maiden Plate at the Dargaville nieeting. In a similar event at the recent Avondale meeting, the Redfern gelding put up a good showing and was out making tho pace until well into the straight. The raco on Thursday is a furlpng shorter, and Fernden will be all tho better suited on that account.

F. Loomb is reported to have saddled up a likely looking sort at Te Rapa on Wednesday in Lady Cynic, by Cynic from Principal Lady. She was not too well served at the start, but she displayed a fine turn of speed in the Frankton Handicap, and was in the middle of the field, at the post. Her turn will come. Another promising one in the same race was Valroe, by Yalkyrian from Prey Roe (a half-sister to Cherry Ripe), who was galloping as fast as anything else at the post. Lady’s Roy accounted for a couple of good sprinters in Nancy Leo and Kingficld' when he scored in tho Bollard Memorial of six furlongs and a-half at the Waikato Hunt meeting. On that occasion, although handicapped at 7.0, ho actually carried 7.6 j, and with 7.8 allotted to him in the Aviqca Handicap of six furlongs at tho Dargavillo meeting on Thursday ho should again perform well, as tho shorter distance will bo an advantage to him.
