Rev. Jolin Paterson, M.A.. of St. Paul’s Church, Wanganui, lyill be a visitor to Palmerston North over the week end. • A cable message from Adelaide announces the death of Mrs Wilkins, the mother of Sir George Wilkins, the. famous explorer, aged 85 years.

Mr L. J. Whittington, who has been accountant at the To Awamutu branch of the Bank of New Zealand for the last seven years, has been promoted to bo manager of the branch at Woodville.

A Press Association telegram from Wellington states that Dr. Derrick, of Auckland, has been appointed Medical Director of the Plunket Society in succession to Sir Truby King. Dr. Derrick is 46 years of age and graduated from Edinburgh University 21 years ago.

Among the notabilities who passed through Wellington this week was Sir John Hubert Plunkett Murray, K.C.M.G., Governor of Papua and author on several books on Papua. He arrived by the Marama on Tuesday and departed for London by the Corinthic on Thursday. Dr. F. H. McDowall, a New Zealander who has been akroad for some time engaged in a study of the chemical aspects of agricultural production, has returned to New Zealand to take up work with the Dairy Research Institute as a member of the staff of the Massey Agricultural College.

Dr. and Airs Clifford James, who are on their way to the Solomon Islands as medical missionaries under the auspices of the Methodist Church, are visitors to Palmerston North over the week-end, and are the guests of Air and Mrs H. E. Pacey. Dr. James will deliver a number of addresses during his short stay. A London cable message announces the death at the age of 82 of Sir Henry Wickham, famous as the pioneer of rubber planting in India and the Far East. For half a century Sir Henry AVickham was an explorer and pioneer planter in the equatorial belt of Central and South America, including the Orinoco and Amazon Rivers. The death of an old resident of Parnell, Auckland, Mr Michael Cronin, aged 81, occurred at his residence this week. Air Cronin arrived from Dublin 64 years ago, accompanied by his wife and three children, and settled in Auckland. Some years later he entered the Newmarket railway workshops, retiring on superannuation in 1915. For 50 years he had lived in the same house in Taurarua Terrace. The death has occurred of Air Francis Bishop, aged 76, a well-known resident of Wailii and Devonport. Air Bishop was horn in Staffordshire, England, in 1852, and before leaving England was for ten years Judge of the Coventry County Court. Arriving in New Zealand about 40 years ago, he was appointed secretary to the AVaihi Hospital. Five years ago he resigned the position and lived at Devonport.

After a lengthy illness borne with patience and fortitude, there passed away on Thursday last, at the residence .of her daughter and son-in-law, Air and Airs 0. E. Olsen, 6 Langston Avenue, a lady in the person of Mrs Christina Graham, whose kindly and sympathetic disposition had earned her a wide circle of friends. The late Airs Graham, who was born at Elockton, Boss-shire, Scotland, in 1856, came to New Zealand with, her parents, Air and Airs McKenzie, at an early age and, when only seventeen, married Air Frederick AV. Graham, of Havelock North, who predeceased her some years ago. Since her husband’s death Airs Graham had resided with various members of her family, and at the time of her death was living with Mr and Airs Olson. A family of eight daughters and two sons, and eighteen grandchildren and Eeven great-grandchildren are left to mourn their loss. The interment will take place at the Havelock North cemetery, in the family plot. Air and Airs W. Lord, of Soutli Africa, who have been touring the Continent for the past 14 months, are at present in Palmerston North, and are the guests of Air Lord’s sister, Airs J. Shaw,, Newbury. Air and Airs Lord intend touring Now Zealand prior to leaving for Australia.
