QUEENSLAND MURDER

ARREST OF STEAMER PASSENGER ARRIVAL AT LONDON. MIGRANT’S EMPHATIC DENIAL. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright). (Australian Press Association). Received September 7, 9 a.m. LONDON, Sept. 6. Hubert Algar Storey, aged twentyone years, appeared at Bow Street today on a provisional warrant charging him with the murder of Frederick Charles Walter, when scrubcitting at Bongee, Queensland some time in June. Storey pleaded not guilty and was remanded in custody for a week. Meanwhile, the police are communicating with Queensland for further identification data.

Inspector Humphries gave evidence to the effect that on September 5 he, together with two sergeants, boarded the liner Sydic when it arrived at Gravesend and interviewed accused. Witness stated that he had a warrant for the arrest of James Morris Kelly for the murder of Frederick Charles Walter, in Queensland. Accused denied everything and said that ho had migrated to Australia in July of 1925. He did all sorts of work including scrubcutting, but this had been at Gowrie. in New South Wales, more than a year ago. He denied having known or heard of. Walter, or that he had used the name of Kelly. He was in Sydney in June and part of July. Inspector Humphries was of the opinion that Storey was identical with Kelly. When charged with the crime Storey declared: “You have made a mistake.”

Storey from the dock said: “I will have no trobule in proving that I am Storey from Kentishtown (in the north of London). I do not fear anything from Sydney.” Walter, the dead man, was also a migrant. The last record at Australia House was three years ago, when Storey was working on a farm near Inverell, in New South Wales.
