AUCKLAND, Aug. 6. Ernest Heaps pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court to-day and was sentenced to eighteen months’ imprisonment, to bo cumulative with a sentenco he is now serving for failing to maintain his second wife and family. Counsel for accused said that his wife left him in 1913 and got to England. He had written to her, but he got no replies. In 1919 he went through a form of marriage with his second wife.
Mr Justice Reed said that prisoner’s offence was a serious one. He had gono through a form of marriage without making inquiries/as to.whether his wife was alive.
