WELL-BALANCED SIDE.

OPINION IN AUSTRALIA.

Received August 1, 10.50 a.m. SYDNEY, Aug. 1. The consensus of opinion in official cricketing circles in Australia is that the team chosen to represent England is a well-balanced, representative combination possibly along the lines of safety first. Noble states that the bowling side is not too impressive, but that the fielding aspect is good. Gregory is surprised at the omission of Woolley. Ivippax says: “ ‘Dig in’ seems to be the watchword.”Oldfield considers it a formidable team.

Ponsford is surprised that Jardine is neither captain nor vice-captain, and that Jupp and Hallows nave been omitted.

Mailoy says that Mead is a surprise seleotion, but a pleasing feature is the inclusion of Duckworth and Amos—two good young wicketkeoprs, though Hammond will probably create more interest than anybody.
