With the completion of the Gisborne winter meeting to-day, so terminated the 1927-8 racing season. The East Coast meeting also witnessed tho final stage of the battle between X. Green, R. Reed and A. E. Ellis for the season’s riding honours. On the opening day Green had failed to open his account, whereas Reed had piloted one winner and Ellis two, tho position at the entry upon activities today finding but a singlo championship point separating tho two leading horsemen, Green having 74, Reed 73, while Ellis was some five points further removed. Although no riders of the winning animals have been telegraphed, it is presumed that Green was the pilot of Abisogno and that Ellis again steered Singleton in their respective successful essays, whereas Reed apparently failed to open his. account. The outcome thus gives T. Green tho season's honours for the second year in succession, the points positions being as under: — X'. Green 75 R. Reed 73 A. E. Ellis 69 TRAINING HONOURS. Although G. New, tho Awapuni mentor, had two candidates competing at Gisborne neither proved capable of annexing a winning take. Tho local trainer, however, emorges from the season’s activities with a clear cut advantage of seven points over J. T. Jamieson, of Papakura. Palmerston North thus has the honour of furnishing both tho winning trainer and the first and second horsemen for the season. The leading mentors were credited with the following pionts:— G. W. Now ... 37 J. X’. Jamieson 50 C. Giesler 29
