Ho was Minister of the Treasury in 1892 and Prime Minister in 1903, 1906, 1911 and 1920. Mr W. F. Goddard, who has been appointed to the position of assistant commercial teacher at the Palmerston Xortli Technical School, served for eight years with the Education Department, Wellington. For the last vear he has been accountant to the Taranaki Education Board. Mr Goddard will commence his duties at the leginning of the next term. The death Mr Henry Caddy at the age of 87 at Wanganui, where he lrad resided for 60 years, removes yet another of the remaining pioneers of .New Zealand. For many years the deceased was a prominent figure in business circles in Wanganui where he conducted a butchery business. The late Mr Caddy' was born in Cornwall m 1841 and came to New Zealand when a boy of six years with his uncle, landing at New Plymouth in 1857. As a result of wounds receiving during tho war. Captain James N. M. Stewart died at Auckland, aged 38 rears. He had been at sea 6ince be was 12 years of age, and had two rears’ war service. Born at Opito jiav, on the Coromandel Coast, Captain Stewart took to the sea and had charge of several coastal vessels, the last being the auxiliary schooner Zingara. He was at one time with the Northern Steamship Company as captain of the Pono and was also w r ith the liiclrardson line, in charge of the Awaliou. and also the Ripple.
