PACIFIC FLIERS.
SYDNEY TO PERTH TRIP. MAY BE MADE BY KINGSFORD SMITH. SYDNEY. July. 17. Captain Tvingsford Smith has announced that he is considering a flight from Sydney to Perth prior to commencing his flight to New Zealand. If the journey to Perth is undertaken it will ;be a non-stop flight of 2000 miles, and will demonstrate that the flight from America was not a fluke. CAPTAIN SMITH IN HOSPITAL. WIRELESS ANNOUNCEMENT. CHRISTCHURCH, July 17. There is a possibility that the Tasman flight may not take place as arranged, according to an announcement from a Sydney radio station which was heard by a Christchurch listener this afternoon. hTo announcer staled that Captain Kings ford-Smith, chief pilot of the Southern Cross and leader of the fliers, was ill, and had been taken to hospital. No indication of tho nature of the illness was given, so that it is not known how long tho airman may have to stay in hospital.
