football. (From Own Own Correspondent.) OTAKd,. June 11. Football was at a low ebb on Saturday. In the -Weraroa-Manakau senior contest the display would not have dene credit to school boys. "Weraroa won 31-9. The junior contest —Manakau and Paraparaumu—was certainly higher and ended in a draw, 16-16. Otaki thirds defeated Huutere 21-6. which game almost ended in a fight, while Otaki and Manakau schoolboys played a draw after a ragged game. HOCKEY. A team representative of Manawatu is expected in Otaki on Saturday and a fair game should result. It is considered that, with better combination, the northerners will register a win. Messrs Nicoison, Parker, an-i Tahini will select the local team, also all future representative teams. At the meetinn' of the association on Friday night a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the Manawatu Association for providing such an enjoyable day at the recent tournament, while a similar vote was passed to _Mr Smith (Otalei’s delegate on the association) for his kindness and attention. GOLF. A team of Otaki golfers journeyed to Tawa Flat on Saturday to meet Ranui and although' defeated spent a most enjoyable dav. The weather was fine, but conditions were muddy under foot. SHOP DAY. A shop day to raise funds for the Manakau (Hui Mai) Football Club was held on Saturday and proved successful. Competitions wore won by Miss Houghton, Messrs Horn and Cutler and Master Tim Slack.
